Mick Flannery was raised on a farm in Blarney, County Cork. He sometimes begrudgingly practised his piano as a kid, while trying to play his mother’s guitar on the sly and not get into trouble. He worked as a stonemason for a bit because his father wouldn’t let him get the job he wanted in the local pub. A self confessed ‘grumpy guy,’ Flannery lets his music do the talking.

After school he signed up for a course in music production in Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa in Cork City where he developed his folk-rolk style, met other musically minded folk producing what would become his debut album, Evening Train as a course project. Originally devised as a musical, Evening Train is an accomplished collection of folk, rock and blues inspired songs recounting a week in the life of two brothers in small town anywhere. Released independently when he was 23, it marked the emergence of a raw talent with incredible songwriting skills. After visiting the States where “he wandered around for a while” he returned home and was spotted playing support to John Spillane and subsequently picked up by the same manager who brought him to meet with EMI and the rest is well not history, but the tale of a talented artist making his way. Flannery’s follow up record, White Lies was released in 2008 and was nominated for the Choice Music Prize. The album quickly reached platinum sales, as the Mick and his band undertook tours of Ireland and the U.K regularly selling out venues. Mick and his band have earned a well deserved reputation for delivering intimate and unforgettable live performances.
