L.E.G Lines out some choice party pickings for the Festive Season
SpeakeasyJazz presents The Boudoir Sessions | Shannon Rowing Club | Thursday December 10th
Revisit the early to mid-20th century: the music, the look, the feel, the aesthetic allure - and even the lollipops as The Boudoir Boys spin a fine vintage of grandpa’s gramophone groovers: flapper-style, swing, boogie-woogie, jump blues and bluegrass while Miss Guided and Little Miss Match serenade the crowd with their piano, accordion and chanteuse set. Listen closely, and you might hear a hint of Judy Garland, Billy Holliday or Mary Coughlan. While the show rolls on, The Magic Latern film club will project rare, zany and vintage film and home movie footage from the black and white era. Upstairs in the beautiful Shannon Rowing Club will house a veritable Good Time Emporium… Get dressed up old skool style, from flapper to teddy boy, trilby trimmings to sequin stylings: the choice is yours, the Boudoir Sessions awaits.

Green n’ Live Sessions 21 | Dolan’s Upstairs | Thursday December 17th | The Ambience Affair, We Cut Corners and Windings
Meath / Dublin two-piece, The Ambience Affair, comprised of Jamie Clarke and Marc Gallagher, released their debut EP, ‘Fragile Things’ earlier this year to rave reviews. Their thrilling sound mixes intense vocal bursts, layers of looped guitars and driving rhythms. Formerly known as Camogie Lovers, We Cut Corners won the hotly contested JD Set final in Dublin earlier this year. Completing the line-up of heady two-piece acts is Limerick’s own gruesome twosome, Windings. The duo’s debut album released in 2005, flits from lo-fi acoustic melodies to scuzzy rock, from woozy instrumentals to ambient electronic pieces, from pure pop to dirgy almost-metal, all of which makes for a truly original and invigorating listening experience.
Green n’ Live Sessions kick off at 8pm and are €free. www.dolans.ie
Last Laughs Comedy welcomes David McSavage | Trinity Rooms | Thursday December 17th
David McSavage is a guitar strumming comedy genius, and that’s official. The comic equivalent of dynamite fishing, his school bully routine insults one and all. The blistering invective is accompanied by an angry, embittered Irishman shtick, as he tells us why life is shit, lays into various nationalities and sings songs about screwing pigeons. But as controversial as he is, there is no bias or discrimination in his act. He hates everyone! Dave is most definitely NOT for the prudish, and many people won’t stomach his random, vicious blasts at the entire world. But for most, what he offers is damn funny as well as unique. Come along and see him if you dare but be prepared to be enjoyably abused.
