Wiggle Brighten the World Album

Formed in 1999, Cork based Wiggle have been one of the country’s leading purveyors of all things dub and have just re-released their self-produced debut album “Brighten the World”. Predominantly an album centred around dub, yet there are explorations into tweaked electronica and subtly induced jungle resulting in a collection of music that both sedates and energises the listener.  This album may just be the perfect accompaniment to those long dark days where the rest of the country is hitting panic buttons left, right and centre and being super-gloomy while you are just watching the world go by with an air of blissful positivity.

Sublplot Records Album Sampler

SubPlot Records are bursting onto the Irish alternative-rock scene offering a breath of fresh air to the music industry by encouraging unity and co-operation between all stakeholders utilizing online media and old fashioned face-to-face exchanges. To coincide with the launch they have generously released three samplers from their back catalogue:

Finger Smith - Freakshow: A blistering 4 minutes of rolling drums layered by a web of warped riffs drawing strong tangents to the sound of Queens of the Stone Age previous to the departure of Nick Oliveiri.

Ladydoll – Honeybunny: Breezy pop vocals coupled with a strong foundation of alt-rock resulting in a sound not akin to the Pixies or Sonic Youth.

Stone Throwing Youths – Too Much Information: Broody grunge emanating from a 20 year old blind instrumentalist= SubPlots shining light

The Limerick leg of the Subplot Records tour hits Baker Place on Saturday December 5th with Fingersmith, Ladydoll and Stone Throwing Youths.

- David Morrissey

*** this list is by all means definitive, complete and indicative of the best from the world of music in 2009. At least by our standards. Which can and have been swayed by personal preferences, our own and other peoples. It could also just be viewed as a snapshot of what’s been humming, droning, bleeping, banging, strumming and singing through our heaphones in 2009. If you would like to add to this, talk about our us on our choices or berate us for our ignorance have your say on eightball.ie/magazine or on myspace.com/limerickeventguide.
