Fried Egg Promotions present Comix & Calibre | The Underground @ Baker Place | Saturday 16 January 2010
Fried Egg Promotions welcome UK drum and bass duo Commix to the Underground at Bakers on January 16th. Commix are George Levings and Guy Brewer, they have had tracks signed to Goldie’s Metalheadz label and Hospital Records. Commix tracks generally have a light, eerie and experimental feel to them; all tracks on their Call To Mind LP are shipped with the “progressive electronic” sub genre to reflect their sound. Commix are part of The Cambridge Four who, alongside Logistics and Nu:Tone, produced NHS74: The Future Sound of Cambridge. They are working on the second edition of this EP, NHS106: The Future Sound Of Cambridge2. Commix will be joined on the night by Belfast producer and drum n’ bass invigorator, Calibre who operates the record label Soul: R with Marcus Intalex and ST Files. Calibre blew a sonic storm through Dolan’s Warehouse back in June at The Big Chillum, so hotly anticipate a night of forward looking, beautifully blended drum n’ bass from these avant garde soldiers of the genre.

Kiernan McMullen | Baker Place | Friday January 22
The term singersongwriter may make you think of a soppy troubadour with a broken heart. In general terms Kiernan McMullan is a singersongwriter. However when you listen to his debut record “Perfect People Are Boring“ out on 111 records, you’ll hear songs that reach towards electro and spoken word as well as funk, rock, pop, jazz and roots music. This 22 year old started touring in the US in November of 2008, hitchiking on the road with only a guitar and a backpack playing shows up and down the east coast. Fast forward to now and he is in a van with nearly 50 thousand miles and hundreds of shows under his belt in the US. Boston raised Kiernan moved to Ireland at 15 and started touring at 18. He returns from Los Angeles where he finished work on an acoustic EP to be released in early 2010.

Two Door Cinema Club | Dolan’s Upstairs | Tuesday March 02
Two Door Cinema Club are three dapper blokes, Alex Trimble, Kev Baird and Sam Halliday who are rolling a slick and quirky vocal hooked pop-tronica out into the world for all to enjoy. We dare you not to, it’s tough. If you were to pose the question, “Where do Two Door Cinema Club live?” and someone was to answer, “Why, Bangor!” That someone would only be 66.67% correct because Two Door Cinema Club are a Bangor/Donaghadee based electro pop band. An obvious absence in the rhythm department is humbly filled by an unadulterated Macintosh and the electronic thump from the fourth imperceptible member goes hand in hand with the electro/pop direction. Their music has been loosely compared to the likes of Death Cab for Cutie and Broken Social Scene but cannot be pigeon-holed. Melodic vocals, from all three members infuses with ‘oceanic’ guitar riffs and rhythms described as “pulsing”. Ditching the symbolism, take your seats; it’s going to be a blockbuster!
