12.03 - On the Way

Foy Vance | Dolan’s Upstairs | Friday December 4th

Foy Vance

A guy, a guitar, a laptop, a loop station, or he might bring a band this time. Troubadour, singer-songer writer, folk-soul, alt – “insert over-used genre that doesn’t really cover what he does here.” Foy Vance is one of the most original and brilliant artists making music today. Hailing from Belfast, Foy’s formative years were spent in Oklahama, New Orleans and Alabama; wherever the road his preacher father’s vocation took him and his family. Soaking up the sounds of church revivals and gospel, blues, folk and jazz influences, Foy has lashed on plenty of his own spice with a generous smattering of guts, tempered by his unique talent cooking up a free flowing sound that echoes of a gospel revival when enjoyed live. His debut album, Hope, glides like a live session and was recorded thusly in a cottage in the Mourne Mountains with Foy producing and mastering this beautifully crafted record. He is currently working on projects with David Holmes and The Roots and should not be missed live.
