Alternative Ms Limerick 2008

Let the Judges decide….

Nine contestants are waxing, taping, singing, dancing and rehearsing for their shot at the Alternative Miss Limerick title this Saturday, October 18th at La Boutique in Dolan’s.  The decision as to who will be crowned rests in the manicured hands of the judging panel.

On this years panel are…..

Limerick lady Geri Maye who has just moved home to work with RTE Lyric FM.  Geri is well known as a presenter on The Den and Would you Believe.  This is Geri’s second time on the AML panel.

Alternative Miss Limerick virgin Nikki Hayes will be joining Geri. Nikki presents the All Request Lunch on RTE 2 FM.  Shirley Templebar/ Declan Buckley is a former Alternative Miss Ireland winner.  While Angelique wore the crown for Limerick after she won in Dolans in 2004.  Richard Lynch is an artist, performer, producer and creative consultant.  Richard was one of the organisers of this year’s Limerick Pride.

“We try every year to have a good balance on the judging panel to cover all bases: performance skills, style and qualities as a drag artist,” said Producer Nicole Dunphy.  “Each judge brings something different to the table; that always leads to a thorough and balanced discussion before the winner is chosen,” she continued.

Alternative Miss Limerick is about talent; originality and glamour.  The judges are asked to look at the whole package and not to be blinded by glitter.  The contestant that is chosen goes on to represent Limerick in the Alternative Miss Ireland.

Alternative Miss Limerick has become an important part of the Limerick social calendar and has raised the profile of the gay community in Limerick. Part of the success of AML has rested in the time devoted and profile lended by the judges each year.

The Alternative Miss Limerick is a fundraiser for the Red Ribbon Project. The Red Ribbon Project offers safe sex education and help for those living within HIV and AIDS in the Limerick region.

AML takes place in Dolans Warehouse in Limerick on Saturday October 18th and is hosted by Panti.
